Vegetables

Snow peas are a fantastic, crunchy introduction to legumes once your baby is showing signs of readiness. They are naturally sweet and offer a great texture that encourages gumming and chewing motions.

How to serve

6-9 months

Steam until very soft and finely chop or mash into a paste.

9-12 months

Steam until tender and chop into small, manageable pieces for pincer grasp practice.

12+ months

Serve cooked and chopped, or whole if your toddler has mastered chewing techniques.

Nutrition

IronFiberVitamin CB vitamins

Snow peas provide a good amount of Vitamin C, which helps your baby absorb iron from other plant-based foods. They are also a solid source of fiber, supporting healthy digestion and regular bowel movements. Additionally, they contain small amounts of Vitamin K, essential for bone health during these rapid growth phases.

Good to know

This food can be a choking hazard for babies. Prepare it in an age-appropriate size and texture, and always supervise your baby while eating.

Whole snow peas are a significant choking hazard, so they must always be cooked until very soft and either mashed or finely chopped. Never serve them raw, as the fibrous pod can be difficult for babies to chew and swallow safely.

Tip

Pair steamed snow peas with a little mild curry powder or a splash of lemon juice to introduce new flavor profiles.
