Pine Nut
Pine nuts can be introduced around 6 months of age, providing healthy fats and a delicate, buttery flavor. They are a versatile nut that can be incorporated into various baby-friendly preparations.
How to serve
Finely ground into a flour and mixed into purees, yogurt, or oatmeal. Can also be offered as a smooth nut butter, thinly spread on soft toast or fruit.
Continue with finely ground pine nuts or smooth nut butter. Mix into soft foods like mashed vegetables or stews.
Serve finely ground or as a smooth butter. With close supervision, very finely chopped pine nuts can be mixed into soft foods for older toddlers with developed chewing skills.
Nutrition
Rich in healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats, pine nuts support brain development. They also provide vitamin K for blood clotting and magnesium for bone health and energy production.
Good to know
Always serve pine nuts finely ground into a flour, as a smooth butter, or thoroughly incorporated into soft foods.
Pine nuts are a common allergen (tree nut). Introduce them one at a time and observe for any allergic reactions. Never serve whole pine nuts to babies as they are a significant choking hazard.
Tip
Lightly toasting pine nuts before grinding can enhance their natural flavor, but ensure they are completely cooled before preparing them for your baby.
