Pecans can be introduced around 6 months, offering healthy fats that are crucial for a baby's rapidly developing brain. They provide a mild, buttery flavor and a wealth of nutrients when prepared safely for little ones.

How to serve

6-9 months

Finely ground into a powder or flour and mixed into yogurt, oatmeal, or purees. Can also be served as a smooth nut butter, thinly spread on toast strips or fruit.

9-12 months

Continue with finely ground pecans or a thin layer of nut butter. Ensure it's mixed into softer foods like mashed avocado or stews.

12+ months

Continue with finely ground pecans or smooth nut butter. With close supervision, very finely chopped pecans can be mixed into soft foods for older toddlers with good chewing skills.

Nutrition

FiberProteinB vitaminsHealthy fatsZinc

Rich in healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (including omega-3s), pecans support brain and nerve development. They also contain fiber for digestive health and vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect cells.

Good to know

Always serve pecans finely ground into a flour, as a smooth butter, or thoroughly mixed into soft, scoopable foods.

Pecans are a common allergen (tree nut). Introduce them one at a time, watching closely for any signs of an allergic reaction. Never serve whole pecans to babies or toddlers due to their significant choking risk.

Tip

Store pecans in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer to prevent them from going rancid, which helps maintain their fresh taste and nutritional value.
