Watermelon
Watermelon can be introduced around 6 months. It's hydrating and most babies love its sweet taste.
How to serve
Offer seedless watermelon pieces for baby to gum and suck.
Serve small cubes as finger food.
Offer thin strips or pieces no larger than 1 cm, rind removed.
Nutrition
Excellent for hydration (92% water). Contains lycopene, vitamin C, and vitamin A. Low in calories.
Good to know
Remove all seeds. Cut into small pieces or thin strips. Avoid large chunks.
Remove all seeds - they're choking hazards. Ripe watermelon is soft, but still cut it small - large chunks of any raw fruit are a choking hazard until age 4. Cut food no larger than 1 cm (about half an inch), and keep round, hard or slippery foods quartered lengthways until age 4.
Tip
Seedless watermelon is convenient for babies. Watermelon can stain, so prepare for mess!
