When a baby is ready to begin solid foods, which is typically around 6 months old, prune may be offered. Prunes should be rehydrated whole, finely chopped, or served as a purée since dried fruit poses a choking risk.

How to serve

When offering prunes or any dried fruits, just be carefull not offering them frequently so your baby does not get used to very sweety tastes.

6-12 months old

At this age, a prune pouch or purée is the best option.

12-18 months old

Prunes can be cooked or dried; cooking or rehydrating them will lessen any risk.

18–24 months old

By this age, your toddler could be able to bite, tear, chew, and swallow a whole prune.

A prune is a nutritious food provides a ton of protein, fiber, and nutrients, such as vitamin B6 to aid in the processing of protein, potassium, vitamin K, and antioxidants that give the fruit its rich purple color. The healthy components in prunes provide a wide range of health advantages, including bone health, cell protection, and a strong immune system, but they are quite sweet. Prunes, are generally used to help and relieve constipatition in babies.

Good to know

This food can be a choking hazard for babies. Prepare it in an age-appropriate size and texture, and always supervise your baby while eating.

For infants under the age of one year, dried fruit can be a choking hazard. Not a recognized allergy in general.
