Can I Eat Smoked Salmon When Pregnant?

Cold smoked salmon carries a small listeria risk, so heat it until steaming — or choose tinned/pasteurized salmon instead. Hot-smoked and cooked salmon are fine.

Cold-smoked salmon isn't cooked, just cured, so it can (rarely) carry listeria. The safe move is to heat it thoroughly or pick a cooked alternative.

Cooked salmon and hot-smoked salmon — safe.
Cold smoked salmon heated until steaming (e.g. cooked into a pasta or on hot toast) — safe.
Cold smoked salmon straight from the pack — best avoided, or heat first.

Salmon is a top source of DHA omega-3s for baby's brain, so it's worth including cooked.
