Can I Eat Prosciutto When Pregnant?

Cook prosciutto before eating it during pregnancy — cured but uncooked meats should be heated until steaming. Cold, it's best avoided.

Prosciutto is cured, not cooked, so like other cured meats it can carry a small listeria or toxoplasmosis risk. Heating it makes it safe.

Prosciutto cooked into a hot dish or crisped in the oven (e.g. on a hot pizza).
Cold prosciutto on a charcuterie board or wrapped around melon — best avoided.
