Can I Eat Deli Meat / Cold Cuts When Pregnant?

Deli meats are safe during pregnancy only if heated until steaming hot — cold cuts carry a listeria risk. Heat removes the risk.

Sliced deli meats (ham, turkey, chicken, salami) can (rarely) carry listeria, which is more dangerous in pregnancy. Heating them to steaming hot kills it.

Deli meat heated until steaming (e.g. a toasted sandwich, cooked into a dish).
Cold deli meat straight from the fridge — best avoided.
Freshly cooked meats (a roast you cook at home) are fine hot or as leftovers within a couple of days, well chilled.
