Goed om te weten

Sticky and chewy. Chop finely or soak in water to soften. Can stick to throat.

Choking hazard - chop or soak to soften. Very sticky and can stick to teeth. High in sugar - serve in moderation. Cut food no larger than 1 cm (about half an inch), and keep round, hard or slippery foods quartered lengthways until age 4. Dried fruit is often treated with sulphites as a preservative, and sulphites are one of the 14 EU-declared allergens. Unsulphured raisins are darker in colour and widely available - worth choosing if your child has asthma, which sulphites can aggravate.

Tip

Soak raisins in warm water for 10 minutes to plump and soften. Mix into oatmeal or baked goods.
